A couple of weekends ago, my friends and I headed up to Figueroa Mountain.
Figueroa Mountain is a hilltop that is part of the San Rafael Mountains, it is about an hour and a half drive. The mountain’s known for its beautiful wildflowers and open grasslands. We chose to go here because we had heard about the mountain from fellow friends who had said it’s super pretty, and they recommended us to go.
I went with my friends Georgia, Reece, Miranda, and Olivia. We started the morning off at Georgia’s house, all of us had slept there the previous night. Georgia had recently just gotten her license, so while deciding on what to do for the day, we chose to go on an adventure as our first far outing on our own. Once we decided what we were doing, we hopped in her prius and then were on our way.
We stopped at Trader Joe’s to grab some snacks for lunch, we were going to have a picnic up there. After grabbing some food, we headed towards Fig. The drive was long. But it was a good kind of long. The whole drive down we were listening to music and just talking and hanging out. Luckily Georgia’s car has an aux cord so we weren’t stuck with the radio for the whole drive.
The drive was beautiful. For the whole drive on either side of us was amazing green mountains. We also passed by tons of farms that were just on the side of the road. It was cool to see a different side of the way people live, I am so used to being in a city with buildings, housing structures, traffic, and tons of people everywhere. But this was different, there was almost no cars on the road and minimal amounts of buildings and all of the houses were basically farms, I liked that.
After driving for a while we finally made it. Once you drive up the mountain there’s different places to pull over and stop, we chose one and got out of the car. We layed down our blanket on the ground, that was overlooking endless amounts of grasses and hills, and ate our lunch. This was so peaceful. We were in the middle of nowhere on this random hill and it was awesome. After finishing our lunch, we ran around and explored the area. Unfortunately, when we went there wasn’t many flowers, that’s probably because it hadn’t rained for awhile, no matter the fact we still had fun.
After some time we decided to head home. On the way back home we stopped at Knapp’s Castle. Knapp’s is a landmark in Santa Ynez, it used to be a mansion but over time it has degraded. We explored this for a little but there wasn’t much to do so we just headed home.
This day was amazing. It could be my favorite day ever, but I am not exactly sure. We got to visit an awesome new place, we drove through beautiful areas, and we had freedom without our parents.
I cannot wait for my next adventure. Comment suggestions of places you love to go to that I should go visit!
